Ireland introduces a food & drink sustainability programme

Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board, has introduced a sustainability charter (branded Origin Green) encouraging food producers to act in the most sustainable way possible. origin greenCompanies are asked to:

  1. Set specific targets in relation to its raw materials, manufacturing processes and ‘social sustainability’ (factors such as nutritional value and employee well-being)
  2. Agree baseline measures
  3. Set targets for the short medium and long term
  4. Report annually on each target area

There will be some independent verification to check the authenticity of reported progress. We’ll watch with interest!
