Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board, has introduced a sustainability charter (branded Origin Green) encouraging food producers to act in the most sustainable way possible. Companies are asked to:
- Set specific targets in relation to its raw materials, manufacturing processes and ‘social sustainability’ (factors such as nutritional value and employee well-being)
- Agree baseline measures
- Set targets for the short medium and long term
- Report annually on each target area
There will be some independent verification to check the authenticity of reported progress. We’ll watch with interest!
