Birmingham’s Child Poverty Commission has launched their 2015 Child Poverty Needs Assessment, which contains some interesting statistics around childhood obesity in Birmingham and how this relates to other indicators of child poverty.
Variations by ward are striking and whilst the gap between Birmingham and the rest of the country is closing, childhood obesity is still more of an issue here than elsewhere.
Obesity levels correlate strongly with other indicators of poverty, which questions whether we can tackle childhood obesity as a distinct issue.
