Coca-cola ingredients

The word ‘coca-cola’ comes from two of the ingredients in the original formulation — cocaine from the ‘coca’ leaf, and ‘cola’, caffeine from the kola nut. Today’s coke contains:

  • Carbonated water
  • Extract of the coca-leaf
  • Caffeine
  • Phosphoric acid (E388)
  • High fructose corn syrup and/or sugar and/or artificial sweeteners
  • Sulfite ammonia caramel (E150d)

In a following series of blogposts, we will go into detail about each of these ingredients, all of which have adverse health effects.

We’ll also put in a mention of the glass, plastic or cans that the Coca-Cola products come in — and who picks up the tab for collecting them all.
