Peter’s story: “Your time is done now”

Peter was a slave on a sugar plantation in Dominica. The only words he uttered to his interrogators, Your time is done now, resonate powerfully today, less than 24 hours after Edward Colston’s statue was dragged off its plinth in Bristol and dropped into the harbour.

The history of his heroism is intertwined with the brutal, bloody history of sugar, cotton and slavery behind Quarry Bank Mill in Styal and my family there.

It’s told in the images below, a version of the slides+talk I gave as my contribution to Stir Up Sunday on 24th November 2019 here in Birmingham.
